1. Muslim doctors invented anesthetics of opium and alcohol mixes and developed hollow needles to suck cataracts from eyes in a technique still used today.
2. Ibn al-Haitham invented the first pin-hole camera after noticing the way light came through a hole in window shutter.
3. Ibn al-Haitham (Alhacen) studied and correctly explained the process of sight and visual perception for the first time in his Book of Optics, published int 1021.
4. Al-Kindis discovery of frequency analysis rendered all the codes of the ancient world soluble and created the basis of modern cryptology.
5. The modern cheque comes form the Arabic saqq, a written vow to pay for goods when they were delivered, to avoid money having to be transported across dangerous terrain.
6. In the 9th century AD astronomer Ibn Hazm said that the Earth is a sphere because the Sun is always vertical to a particular spot on Earth.
7. The earliest known medial experiment was carried out by Razi in order to find the most hygienic place to build a hospital. He hung pieces of meat in places throughout 10th century in Baghdad and observed where the meat decomposed least quickly, and that was where he built the hospital.
8. Abu al-Qasim a-Zahrawi (Abulcasis) contributed greatly to the discipline of medial surgery with his Kitab al-Tasrif, a medical encyclopedia published in 1000 A.D.
9. Ibn Sina (Avienna) pioneered the modern approach of examining the pulse through the examination of the wrist, which is still practiced in modern times.
10. It was Al-Zahrawi who discovered that cat gut used for internal stitches dissolves away naturally (a discovery he made when his monkey ate his lute strings) and that it can be also used to make medicine capsules.
